Systematic Theological Studies
In OBI’s view, the pinnacle
work in Systematic Theology is Lewis Sperry Chafer’s “unabridged”
Systematic
Theology. Although it was originally
printed in 8 volumes, reprints are also available in 4 volume sets. Although we highly
recommend each student to have this set, it is something we cannot provide. There
is also an abridged 2 volume set available.
Chafer was an ordained Reformed Presbyterian who adhered
to a
dispensational view. He was the original
president of Dallas Theological Seminary.
Dallas still uses his work as their primary text for
their
Master of Theology degree.
Another
highly recommended alternative (that would also
need to be purchased) is: Millard Erickson’s, Christian
Theology. From the perspective of an
evangelical,
dispensational Baptist with moderate reformed views, he interacts
with the
major trends in contemporary non-evangelical theology, as well as
providing material
for personal application. He taught
at Southwestern
Baptist Seminary, Western Seminary, and was the academic dean at Bethel
Theological Seminary.
If
students are unable to
purchase either of these works, a number of very good Systematic
Theologies are
listed below, which students can freely access.
Although some differ slightly from OBI’s dispensational,
reformed,
pre-millennial view, still they are very thorough treatments of
Christian
Theology.
